Bret Guzik Teams With PA National Guard To Promote Drug Awareness

On March 19th, NASCAR late model driver Bret Guzik will join Staff Sergeant P. Jeff Bergamasco of the PA National Guard Counterdrug Program to present a drug awareness education program at the A.W. Beattie Career Center in Allison Park, PA.

A high school senior and RAD Racing Team member, Bret Guzik competes in NASCAR's Whelen All-American Late Model Series at Lake Erie Speedway. Guzik will speak to the Beattie students about his racing experiences and the importance of making positive choices regarding the dangers of using drugs and alcohol. The students will also get an up-close look at Cat Iron Racing's Race Against Drugs super late model race car during a question and answer session led by the team's young driver.

Staff Sergeant Bergamasco is a PA National Guard Counterdrug, Drug Demand Reduction Specialist working in the Southwestern part of the state, where his responsibilities include teaching the National Guard's "Stay On Track" drug education curriculum. In this role, Sergeant Bergamasco has made a difference in the lives of many young people as he works with agencies such as the Teen Institute, the Southwestern PA Adopt-A-School Program, the National Night Out Campaign, Communities That Care, and many local school districts.

Located just outside Pittsburgh, the A.W. Beattie Career Center offers advanced technical training, career development, business ethics and career-related employment opportunities in 17 technical areas to high school students and adults.

The Pennsylvania National Guard, through its Counterdrug Program, provides support to Law Enforcement Agencies and Community-based Drug Demand Reduction coalitions in their efforts to disseminate anti-drug messages to the public and provide alternatives to drug use and substance abuse. The Pennsylvania National Guard Counterdrug Program is headquartered at Fort Indiantown Gap and supports agencies throughout the Commonwealth.

2010 will mark Bret Guzik's third season as driver of Cat Iron Racing's No. 04 NASCAR super late model. His team is slated to return to Lake Erie Speedway next season and hopes to visit several other tracks in the northeast. In addition to advancing his racing career on the track, Bret plans to pursue a degree in motorsports engineering beginning this Fall.
